Cleaning & Care

Now your curtains are up and ready to go, we’ve put some tips to make sure you can maintain them in the best possible way.

Regular Dusting

Dust your curtains and sheers regularly with a soft-bristled brush to remove surface dust and dirt. This can help prevent build-up that can cause staining or discoloration.

Vacuuming

Gently vacuum on a regular basis with the appropriate vacuum cleaner attachment.

Spot cleaning

Make sure you treat any spills and stains as soon as possible. Firstly, gently scrape any soil or mop any liquid from the surface of the fabric. The use of detergent with water should be approached with caution as it may result in over-wetting, water marking and possibly creating further stains. We recommend to test on hidden area of the curtain to ensure fabric and colour are not removed. Blot the stain gently with a clean cloth or sponge using a mild detergent and cold water (avoid rubbing or scrubbing, which can damage the fabric).

Here is some further information for specific types of stains

Non-Oil-Based Stains: Use warm water and non toilet soaps which don’t contain optical brighteners (eg. Velvet soap, Lux Flakes, Softly). Mix a small amount of soap and warm water solution and apply to the stain, rubbing gently. Blot dry with a clean towel. Apply cool water (preferably filtered/distilled water) and blot dry again. Then go in with a hair dryer, working out from the centre of the stain, dry quickly to prevent rings forming. It is generally preferable to clean whole panels of fabric in this way rather than trying to spot clean specific areas.

Oil-Based Stains: Following the same basic guidelines as above, apply a proprietary brand solvent based cleaner and try to clean generally in panels rather than spot cleaning specific areas.

Hand Washing & Drying

Remove any hooks (if applicable) before cleaning. Give the curtain or sheer a warm hand wash and drip dry in the shade. For best results hang curtains by their hooks to damp dry immediately. If there are any creases or wrinkles on the fabric a warm iron or a handheld steamer or iron on a low setting can also be used to smooth them out.

Dry cleaning

Our curtains are also dry cleanable and annual professional cleaning is recommended. Be sure to choose a reputable dry cleaner that has experience working with delicate fabrics. (Keep in mind there could be a possible shrinkage of 3%)

Sun damage

Be mindful of prolonged exposure to direct sunlight, as this can cause fading and discoloration over time. Consider using a window treatment that provides UV protection behind your curtains and sheers.
